TOOTH-COLORED FILLINGS

Say goodbye to mercury fillings and hello to a quick, long-lasting solution: tooth-colored fillings. This natural-looking alternative to metal fillings does a great job at filling cavities and maintaining your beautiful smile. We’re happy to offer tooth-colored fillings for our patients in Point Pleasant! Learn more about them here.

WHAT ARE TOOTH-COLORED FILLINGS?

Tooth-colored fillings are made from a composite resin and, as the name dictates, match the natural shade of your teeth. They’re used to fill cavities as needed and, unlike metal fillings, won’t affect the appearance of your smile.

They typically last around 10 years and can be less invasive than metal fillings. Plus, they can replace more severe tooth damage, as they’re molded to the shape of your teeth, for a strong, natural-looking treatment option.

Compared to the traditional metal dental fillings, tooth-colored fillings are easier and more low-hassle, as most fillings can be completed in just one visit!

DO YOU STILL PROVIDE METAL DENTAL FILLINGS?

If you’ve had dental fillings in the past, it was probably a metal amalgam filling made out of a mixture of silver, mercury, and tin. Metal fillings are still offered by many dentists, but Coastal Dental chooses to use tooth-colored fillings, as they’re an easy, stress-free way to get cavities filled without the need to use mercury. Plus, they look completely natural!

Compared to tooth-colored fillings made from composite resin, metal fillings require removing more of your tooth. This means the procedure takes a bit longer, especially for large cavities, and it could be a bit uncomfortable.

Unless they’re on your very back teeth, metal fillings are noticeable. We have many patients that need fillings on visible teeth, and with our tooth-colored fillings, you’d never know they had fillings! If you have metal fillings and are looking for a more aesthetically pleasing alternative, we can replace them with our tooth-colored fillings.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED A DENTAL FILLING?

You probably need a dental filling if you have a cavity. Cavities are caused by tooth decay as a result of acids released by bacteria that live on your teeth. If you visit our dental office in Point Pleasant and we find one or more cavities, we will probably recommend a tooth-colored filling.

Symptoms of cavities include:

  • Persistent bad breath you can’t get rid of
  • A dark spot on your tooth
  • Toothache
  • Sensitivity to hot and cold food and drink

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR TOOTH FILLING APPOINTMENT

Getting a tooth-colored filling is pretty easy and painless! Depending on the severity of your cavity, one filling could take anywhere from twenty minutes to an hour. If you have multiple cavities that need to be filled, it could take a bit longer, but it saves you a future trip to our office in Point Pleasant!

We’ll numb your mouth and remove any decayed and damaged tooth material. You might feel some pressure from the drill we use, but this process is painless! Once the affected area is completely cleaned out, we insert the composite resin. To set the resin, we’ll use a UV light. Once the resin is set, we’ll shape the filling to fit your teeth. That’s it! You’re all done!

You shouldn’t experience any soreness or pain post-dental filling. Some patients experience sensitivity where their filling is, but this shouldn’t last longer than a few weeks.

HOW MUCH DO DENTAL FILLINGS COST IN POINT PLEASANT?

Because tooth fillings are a necessary general dentistry procedure, dental fillings are usually covered by your dental insurance. If you don’t have dental insurance or, for some reason, they aren’t covered, we can work something out so you receive the best, affordable treatment possible.
